Beautiful and Healthy Skin Rose Fruit Tea

Summer has arrived and we all want to have that healthy and beautiful skin tone when we are in our summer clothes. By all mean, we want to have healthy and beautiful skin all year long, but it is never too late to start to improve the health of our skin from inside out.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the first month after childbirth is the best month for woman to improve body’s constitution. It means that all opportunities matters. Hence, it is often that Chinese herbalists recommend their patients not to drink water during the first month of the postpartum care because every that gets into the body matters. I often give out recipes for various tea or drinks depending on my patient’s health. This rose fruit tea is one of the many recipes that help woman to become more beautiful and, of course, healthier. Of those recipes, most of them are designed only for postpartum woman. This rose fruit tea is one of the few that is good for not only postpartum woman, but also most woman and man.

Why this rose fruit is good for you and especially for your skin!

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, if apples and pears are used in this rose fruit tea, it has the following functions.

  1. Tonify Spleen.
  2. Smooth Qi.
  3. Move Blood.
  4. Rejuvenate Skin.

Of course, with the use of different fruits, the benefits may change, but overall, for most fruits in North America, cooked fruit is most likely to have the function to tonify spleen. However, I usually recommend my patients to use apple, pear, peach, pineapple, melons, grape or any fruit that is in season. Generally speaking, just use the fruits that that we generally see in a fruit bowel. Do not use fruit like durian, banana and alike whose that will make the fruit tea look milky. But it is all up to everyone’s personal preference.

Rose has many wonderful benefits for our skin. There are lots of articles online about it, so take a look if you are interested in what others are saying. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, rose has sweet, slightly bitter and warm properties, and is energy travels through Liver and Spleen meridians. Its functions are to regulate qi and reduce stagnation, remove blood stagnation, nourish the skin, and improve digestion. Basically, these means that rose is good for treating bloated stomach, pain around our rib cage especially to the sides of our body, pain cause by menstruation, irregular menstruation. And because rose is very gentle when moving qi and blood in our body, there is a smoothing effect, so rose tea is good for emotional stress and lifting up the mood.

So, why is rose good for the skin? We usually say someone has good skin when the skin complexion and tone looks good. It means that the skin color is even with a little rose pink or yellow color. In scientific way to describe, the skin is fill with blood and oxygen. Here is an interesting article about healthy skin complexion. Skin tone is also import, it means that there is no cracks and the surface is smooth.

Rose move qi and blood and travels with our spleen and liver’s energy. Spleen is associated with muscles and liver is associated with tendons in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Energy from rose can help our body to circulate qi and blood to nourish our muscle and tendons. It means that our muscles will be filled with more fresh blood and oxygen. That supply our skin with good blood and oxygen to give us good skin complexion and tone.

Rose is so good already, why the fruits? Fruits can be consider as the fuel to assist rose’s energy to move qi and blood in the body. Consider rose as a sports car with maybe 1 gallon of gas. It will give you wonderful joy for maybe 5 miles, but that’s all. With fruits, you have a whole tank of gas which can bring you from Boston to New York.

In addition, different fruits bring different routes. Pears’s energy travel to lung. And Lung is associate with skin. Grape has additional function to nourish blood. Apple can tonify the heart and boost qi. Melons has cooling and draining property which is wonderful during hot and damp summer. Pineapple is fill with enzyme that can help with digestions. And because most fruits are rich in vitamins and have the functions of satisfying thirst and helping produce saliva, this rose fruit tea is better than any sugary drinks out there.

The Recipe of Rose Fruit Tea:

Now, let’s talk about how to make this rose fruit tea that can make your skin young and beautiful.

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 cups of water
  • 1-2 cups of fruits
  • a handful of rose (about 10-20).
    • basically any kind of rose that can be used for rose tea is good. I personally like to use rosebuds for its taste, but rose petals are wonderful as well.

To make this rose fruit tea, here are the simple steps.

  1. Wash and cut all fruits as how you would normally prepare them. I cut them into cubes or pieces about 1 inch wide.
  2. Boil water. Once water is boiled, add all fruit in the water.
  3. Boil for about 5 minutes. Then add roses and turn off the heat. Let rose and fruit soak in the hot water for about 30 minutes.
  4. Then the rose fruit tea is ready to be served!
    • I recommend this tea to be served at slight warm or room temperature.
